Advanced Screenplay Editing

Use find and replace, navigate with the element panel, import existing screenplays, and manage version history with autosave.

Introduction

Once you're comfortable with basic screenplay formatting, these advanced features help you work faster, navigate complex scripts, and manage revisions.

Find and Replace

Open Find and Replace: Cmd+F

Find: Search for any text in screenplay Replace: Replace with different text Replace All: Change all instances at once

Use cases:

  • Change character names
  • Update location names
  • Fix repeated typos
  • Revise recurring dialogue

Element Panel

Open: Click "Elements" button or Cmd+E

Shows outline of your entire screenplay:

  • All scene headings listed
  • Click any scene to jump to it
  • See script structure at a glance
  • Navigate long scripts quickly

Importing Existing Screenplays

Supported formats:

  • Final Draft (.fdx)
  • Fountain (.fountain)
  • PDF (extracts text, may need formatting cleanup)

To import:

  1. Click "Import" button
  2. Select file from your computer
  3. Flik converts to its format
  4. Review and clean up formatting if needed

Version History and Autosave

Autosave:

  • Saves every 30 seconds automatically
  • Never lose work
  • No manual save needed

Version history:

  • Previous versions saved automatically
  • Revert to earlier version if needed
  • Compare versions

Keyboard Shortcuts

  • Cmd+F: Find and Replace
  • Cmd+E: Element Panel
  • Cmd+S: Manual save
  • Tab: Next element type
  • Cmd+Z: Undo
  • Cmd+Shift+Z: Redo
