Multi-Track Video Editing

Add multiple video and audio tracks, layer clips, use the playhead, master snapping and precise positioning, and navigate the timeline.

Introduction

Multi-track editing lets you layer video clips, add multiple audio tracks, and create professional compositions. This guide covers working with tracks, layering content, and precise positioning.

Understanding Tracks

Video tracks (V1, V2, V3):

  • Higher tracks appear on top
  • Layer videos for effects and compositing
  • Lower tracks show where upper tracks are transparent

Audio tracks (A1, A2, A3):

  • All tracks mix together
  • Adjust individual track volumes
  • Layer dialogue, music, sound effects

Adding Tracks

Click "+" button above timeline to add new track.

Or request from AI:

"Add 2 video tracks and 3 audio tracks"

Layering Video Clips

Use cases:

  • Text overlays on video
  • Picture-in-picture effects
  • Transitions and wipes
  • Green screen compositing

How:

  1. Place base video on V1
  2. Add overlay on V2
  3. V2 appears on top of V1
  4. Adjust position and opacity in inspector

Snapping

Snapping enabled (default):

  • Clips snap to playhead
  • Clips snap to other clips
  • Helps with precise alignment

Disable snapping:

  • Hold Cmd while dragging
  • For micro-adjustments

Precise Positioning

Move clip to exact time:

  1. Select clip
  2. In inspector, enter exact timecode
  3. Clip jumps to that position

Trim to exact duration:

  1. Select clip
  2. Enter exact start/end times
  3. Clip adjusts precisely

Keyboard Shortcuts

  • Spacebar: Play/Pause
  • C: Cut/Razor tool
  • V: Selection tool
  • A: Audio tool
  • Delete: Remove selected clip
  • Cmd+Z: Undo
  • J/K/L: Rewind/Pause/Fast-forward
