Introduction to Video Editor Mode

Switch to Editor mode, understand the timeline interface, import media from file browser, and learn basic playback controls.

Introduction

Editor mode is a professional multi-track video editor built into Flik. Edit videos with timeline precision, add multiple audio tracks, apply effects, and export final videos.

Switching to Editor Mode

Click the Scissors icon in the top-left corner to enter Editor mode.

What changes:

  • Timeline appears at bottom
  • Preview window at top
  • Media library on left (auto-hides)
  • AI chat hidden (focus on editing)

The Editor Interface

Preview Window (Top)

  • Shows current frame at playhead position
  • Playback controls underneath
  • Fullscreen toggle

Timeline (Bottom)

  • Multiple tracks (video and audio)
  • Horizontal time ruler
  • Playhead (red line) shows current position
  • Zoom controls for timeline scale

Media Library (Left)

  • Shows all project media
  • Drag to timeline to add clips
  • Auto-hides to maximize timeline space
  • Click tab to show/hide

Importing Media

Drag from file browser:

  • Find video or audio in file browser
  • Drag directly to timeline track
  • Clip appears at drop position

Or from media library:

  • Click media library tab (left side)
  • Drag files to timeline tracks

Basic Playback Controls

  • Spacebar: Play/Pause
  • J: Rewind
  • K: Pause
  • L: Fast forward
  • Arrow keys: Frame-by-frame navigation

Adding Clips to Timeline

  1. Drag media file to timeline
  2. Drop on video or audio track
  3. Clip snaps to playhead or other clips
  4. Adjust position by dragging

Moving Clips

  • Click and drag any clip along its track
  • Snaps to other clips for seamless edits
  • Hold Shift to disable snapping

The Playhead

The red vertical line shows current time position.

  • Click ruler: Jump to time
  • Drag playhead: Scrub through timeline
  • Playback follows playhead: Press spacebar to play from current position

Tracks

Video tracks (top of timeline):

  • Numbered V1, V2, V3
  • Higher tracks appear on top in preview
  • Layer videos for compositing

Audio tracks (bottom of timeline):

  • Numbered A1, A2, A3
  • All tracks mix together in output
  • Waveforms show audio visually
